How do I transition my dog to Healthy Hounds Kitchen?

When starting your dog on a new diet, it’s best to allow your dog time to transition.

  • Day 1-2: 25% Healthy Hounds Kitchen | 75% of your dog’s current food.

  • Day 3-4: 50% Healthy Hounds | 50% of your dog’s current food.

  • Day 5-6: 75% Healthy Hounds | 25% of your dog’s current food.

  • Day 7: 100% Healthy Hounds

General Feeding Information

  • Our General Feeding Guidelines suggest ½ to 1 cup of food for every 10lb’s of body weight per day.  This is a broad spectrum as dogs’ caloric requirements can vary greatly with age, breed, and activity levels.

  • In general, most of our customers find that their dogs eat about the same quantity of Healthy Hounds fresh dog food as they did with their previous diet.  For example, if your dog is eating 2 cups per day (1 cup for breakfast and 1 cup for dinner), then you can expect your dog to eat approximately 2 cups per day of Healthy Hounds Kitchen.

  • One pound of food will yield approximately 2 cups, so our 25lb bulk orders will yield approximately 50 cups.

  • Since our recipes are “Complete & Balanced” per AAFCO guidelines, you can use our recipes as a complete stand alone diet, or you can mix them with your dog’s current food.

  • Please keep in mind that your dog’s metabolism, age, activity and breed can all play factors in feeding quantity.  It’s always best to consult with your veterinarian to determine your dog’s ideal weight at their age.

How much should i feed my adult dog

Adult dogs’ caloric requirements can vary depending on their activity level and weight, and typically fall in between ½ to 1 cup/day for every 10lb of body weight range.

Senior dogs, or less active dogs, tend to require fewer calories to maintain a healthy weight, thus typically fall to the lower end of the feeding quantity range.

How Often should i feed my puppy?

During the growth stage, puppies require more calories. However, we do not recommend free feeding. Growth should be steadily maintained and checked through regular veterinary visits to ensure proper development.

  • 4 Months and Under: Feed 4x/day in smaller quantities until they are 4 months old

  • 4-6 Months: Feed 3x/day until 6 months old

  • 6 Months and Older: Feed 2x/day.
